About Sydvest Software

The complexity of our technical and socio-technical systems is continuously increasing. At the same time we see an increased focus on improved working environment, as well as cost reductions in product development and production. This development has led to a need for new and more cost-efficient tools for systematic efforts to reduce risk and vulnerability, and thereby contributing to increased speed and quality of product development, as well as improved dependability of production systems.

Sydvest provides software tools to cover this need. We offer complete packages including, in addition to the software tool itself, training in the use and theory behind the tools, as well as telephone and Internet user support. We also offer assistance in implementing the application of tools in the user’s organisation.

We emphasise keeping our software tools updated both with respect to the development within the application area as well as user interface. This will be accomplished through a unique alliance with SINTEF and Safetec, both highly recognised as leading companies within their areas.

WHY THE NAME "SYDVEST"?

Sydvest is the Norwegian name for the sou'wester rain-hat, a well-proven "tool" for protection against bad weather. The tools we offer will, in a figurative sense, be the enterprise's sou'wester, in the sense that they are used to protect against hazards and undesired events.

BUSINESS AREA

Our software tools are aimed at preventing losses caused by accidents and undesired events. Two areas are focussed:

SHE-management (Safety, health and environment): Tools for implementing and operational follow-up of systematic work with safety, health and environment. Within this area we will introduce a software tool developed for the Norwegian market, with the name Kyrass, early in the second half of 1999.
RAMS Engineering (Reliability, availability, maintainability and safety): Companies involved in product and/or systems development have a need for ensuring that their products have a good and documented performance with respect to safety and reliability. Manufacturing enterprises focus on reduc-tion of vulnerability and ensuring availability and dependability of their production system. Within this area we now offer the software tools CARA-FaultTree and PDS-Tool. We also plan to develop a tool with the preliminary name CARA-Forms, to be introduced late 1999.

Our product development is carried out in co-operation with our customers, and in an efficient development coalition between Sydvest and the major owners of the company (Safetec and SINTEF). In addition, we aim at having a close co-operation with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
